Why Buy Loose Gemstones Instead of Pre-Set Jewelry?
There are many reasons, but basically it boils down to value and choice.
When buying your green beryl gemstone loose instead of a pre-set stone, you can be sure you are getting the best value for your money. Loose gemstones are less expensive, a better value, and you can really see what you are paying for. The most important part of getting the right price and finding the best value is to first see what you're getting. A jewelry setting will hide the inclusions inside a gem, and can deepen or brighten its color. With a loose stone you can much more easily inspect the gem and see it for what it really is. In this way you can get a better idea of its true worth and be sure you are paying a fair price.
The second advantage of buying a loose gemstone is choice. You are free to pick the exact color, cut, shape and variety of the stone for the setting of your dreams, be it yellow gold, white gold, platinum or silver; prong set or bezel set with diamond accents. You can experience the joy of creating your very own, one-of-a-kind jewelry design. Choose from a variety of jewelry settings and styles to create a completely original presentation that will perfectly suit your individual gemstone and will be as unique as you are!

Green beryl is a variety of the gemstone beryl. Beryl is a Cyclosilicate with the chemical composition Be3Al2(SiO3)6. Beryls are popular gems, not only on account of their magnificent colors. Their appeal also lies in their high brilliance and qualities such as their hardness (7.5 to 8), which makes them admirably well suited for use in jewellery.
The toughness of green beryl is good. Green beryl gemstones crystallize in the hexagonal crystal system with a prismatic, parallel and elongated crystal habit. The green beryl stone is generally vertically striated or grooved, with vitreous luster. Green beryl has imperfect cleavage which runs parallel to the basal pinacoid. Green beryl gemstones can be found to be transparent to translucent. It has a specific gravity of 2.80 and a Mohs hardness of from 7.5 to 8. Refractive indices range around 1.58 to 1.59. The refractive index (RI), measured using a refractometer, is an indication of the amount light rays are bent by a mineral. Birefringence is the difference between the minimum and maximum RI. When birefringence is high, light rays reflect off different parts of the back of a stone causing an apparent doubling of the back facets when viewed through the front facet.
Color
Green beryl always light or pale green, too light or low in saturation to be considered emerald.
Cut
Loose green beryl can be faceted into various gem cuts. The skilled hands of gemstone cutters turn them into a multitude of many-faceted shapes. In particular, beryls are well suited to rectangular or square step cuts, since it takes a clear design to bring out the transparent beauty of this colorful gemstone family to the full. The usual traditional cuts are also seen like rounds, pears, ovals, emeralds, cushions, and many more. Massive chunks of transparent beryl, usually morganite and heliodor are sometimes carved into ornamental figures. Furthermore, perfect, transparent, six-sided crystals are occasionally worn uncut as necklace pendants.
Treatments
Green Beryl is not norally treated or enhanced in any way.
Varieties of beryl have been considered gemstones since prehistoric times. Recognized for its beauty, in the Bible, in Ezekiel 1:16, the wheels of God's throne are described as having the appearance of "gleaming beryl".
Legend says that beryl was once used to ward off demons and evil spirits and that it can protect the wearer from dangers whilst traveling.
Other legends also state that beryl can be used to bring about good luck, cheerfulness, energy, and eternal youthfulness.
Beryl had been used as a physician's tool and gazing stone since ancient times. Those beliefs persist today. Beryl is metaphysically attributed with the ability to cure a number of intestinal and stomach ills, such as nausea, ulcers, and seasickness. It is also said to be effective at treating disorders of the heart and spine.
